Known issue: Corporate linking causes a crash in T2 file when return is opened in older version

We received reports of a crash when editing a T2 file that is corporate linked. An error similar to the following shows when opening or editing a file:

Cause

After investigating the source of the crash, we have determined that it occurs when a file is saved in a current version of TaxCycle and then opened in a prior version.

You can determine whether this is the cause of the crash by looking at the file history:

  1. Click on the File menu.
  2. Click on Info.
  3. Click on History.
  4. In the list of actions performed on the file, you will notice that it was saved in a newer version and then saved in an older version.

Workaround

To avoid and resolve this issue, we recommend updating all workstations in your office to the most recent version of TaxCycle. If you have already opened and saved any returns in an older version and are getting the error opening the file in the current release, please contact our support team for assistance.

Anticipated resolution

The next TaxCycle release will prevent opening files in an older version of TaxCycle if they are saved in the latest version of TaxCycle.
