ReFILE—TaxCycle is CRA certified!

TaxCycle T1 is certified by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for ReFILE. If you filed a client's T1 return using EFILE, you can use ReFILE to adjust 2016 tax returns. The ReFILE service lets you change the same lines that individual taxpayers can change in CRA My Account. Just like with EFILE, you will receive immediate confirmation that your ReFILE submission was accepted or rejected.

To learn how to ReFILE in TaxCycle, read the ReFILE and T1-ADJ help topic, or watch this video:

Right-click to transfer donations

You can now right-click on the list of donations (on the Donations worksheet) to transfer the current donation or all donations to the spouse.

2017 T5 preview for early data entry

Start entering data for T5 slips and summaries for the 2017 year. Use it for early data entry for 2017 T5 slip recipients. This module is a preview module that uses the 2016 rates for calculations.

If you have a current T5 license for the 2016 module, you can use this module for now. However, to continue use, and to file returns as we approach the 2017-18 slips filing season, you will be required to purchase an updated license.

Claim professional dues/fees on TP1 line 397.1 (instead of the TP-80)

Taxpayers may have to claim a part or all of the professional dues/fees entered on line 8760 of the T2125 as non-refundable tax credits (NRTC) on lines 397.1 and 397 of the TP1 jacket, instead of on line 204 of the TP-80.

If you are preparing a return for a Québec resident (or a multijurisdiction return that includes Québec), you will now see a new field below line 8760 of the T2125. If you enter an amount on line 8670, a review message in this new field will remind you to enter the amount (if any) that should flow as a NRTC to lines 397.1 and 397 on the TPCredits worksheet and the TP1 jacket. The difference from line 8760 minus the amount entered in this new field then flows to line 204 on the TP-80.

  1. Click on the first slip in the list.
  2. Shift+click on the last slip to select all slips in the list.
  3. Ctrl+click to exclude a slip from the selection.
  4. Right-click on the list of selected slips and choose Delete (or press Ctrl+Delete on your keyboard).

Remember that you can get those deleted slips back as follows.

  1. Press Ctrl+Z to immediately undo the deletion.
  2. Go to the Deleted view in the Prepare sidebar to see a list of all the deleted slips.

Resolved issues

  • T1—If it's more beneficial to claim all the federal Children's arts amounts on one spouses' return, and some or all the of MB, BC, or YK provincial amount on the other spouse's, TaxCycle now optimizes the calculation so that the returns remain eligible for EFILE. TaxCycle will automatically claim one dollar of federal amount so that the other spouse is eligible to claim the provincial amount. A review message will alert you when this occurs.
  • T1—Optimizations now better account for Foreign Tax Credits (FTC).
  • T1—The Net capital losses section of the Optimization worksheet now shows values. (Related to a request in this post in our online community.)
  • Optimizations enabled on the Saskatchewan T1 returns with disability and caregiver amounts. In a coupled return that included claims for caregiver amount and a disability transfer from a dependant, and for which the income of the spouses was similar, the claim for the disability transfer was switching between spouses every time a change was made to the return. The optimizations were adjusted to better determine the spouse who should claim the amounts or portion thereof. If applicable, returns filed before this release should be reviewed to ensure the optimal claim was made.

More customer-requested enhancements

  • T1—The message to enter the birth date no longer prevents electronically filing a T1013. (In response to this post in our online community.)
  • T1—A new Switch to spouse button on the Home menu allows you to jump to the same field/form on the spouse's return just like when you press the F5 key.
