Release highlights

  • New TaxCycle colours
  • Speed enhancements
  • Bulletin to suggest a file name change
  • Template changes
  • Tax-related changes

New TaxCycle colours

This release refreshes the TaxCycle interface with bolder colours. The deeper blue and green, and brighter reds improve contrast. (And, we just like the refreshed look. We hope you like it too!) Our website also uses the same colour palettes.

Speed enhancements

We've made a number of enhancements to speed things up. They are:

  • A new installer that requires fewer clicks and that supports silent and passive installs.
  • Significant memory optimizations to reduce the amount of memory TaxCycle uses. This will be particularly beneficial when the tax season is in full swing and you're using TaxCycle all the time.

Bulletin suggesting a file name change

If you change the taxpayer's name (for example, to fix a typo), couple/uncouple the return, or enter a date of death, and the suggested file name is different from the actual file name:

  1. TaxCycle shows a bulletin suggesting renaming the file.
  2. Click the link to rename to the suggested name.

This is particularly useful if you add a spouse at a later date, and want the file name to reflect that. Also note that dependant modifications do not trigger the rename bulletin.

Template changes

  • Post-season letters (PostSeason and JPostSeason / Après-saison et JAprès-saison) and Homework (Devoirs) templates added to the T1 2016 module.
  • New Address (Adresse) snippet added to all years of T1 templates. This snippet is used to insert the client address into letters and invoices. (Learn more about how snippets work in the Snippets: letterhead and closing help topic.)
  • Client addresses in T1 letters and invoices now take into account foreign address information in the Contact section of the Info worksheet. If you complete the State/region, Country, and Postal/zip code fields, the address now shows. The address uses standard international addressing format for all addresses except the USA, placing the Postal/zip code before the city and region. If you enter USA in the Country field, the zip code appears after the State.

Tax-related changes

  • The new AT1 Schedule 3 (Alberta other tax deductions and credits) was added to TaxCycle T2/CO-17. For further information, see http://www.finance.alberta.ca/publications/tax_rebates/corporate/corp46.html.
  • You can now import GIFI for Schedule 101 into T2/T5013.
  • T2 Schedule 7 part 6 no longer triggers a format override error when a valid business number is entered in column 600.
  • In the 2017 T1, T3 and T5013 modules, we implemented the new RC59 and RC59X. These now only allow for authorizing phone or mail access or cancelling an authorization. The CRA no longer accepts the old RC59 to authorize online access. Authorizing online access to a representative for a business account must now be done online in Represent a client.
  • In TaxCycle T1, where the client had an overall capital loss on Schedule 3, under certain circumstances, T691 line 26 was calculating an amount but it should have been zero, The calculation was updated to reflect the related instructions for line 19.
