We have recently received a few questions about changes to the T183. The changes were significant this year to allow for new services like Express NOA and ReFILE, but the question we hear the most is about the removal of the confirmation number from the bottom of the T183.
If you want to learn more about the new sections on the T183, read the updated T183 form help topic.
Confirmation number in 2015
In 2015 and prior years, the last section on the T183 showed both of the following:
- Document control number (DCN), created when you print the form or transmit the return.
- Confirmation number (CN), received back from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) when you file the return.
Document control number (DCN) only in 2016
In 2016, the T183 changed and you only need to provide the document control number (DCN) in the last section on the T183. TaxCycle automatically inserts this when you print the form or transmit the return.
Where can I find the confirmation number now?
The confirmation number is still saved in TaxCycle. It appears in the file History, on the EFILE Results worksheet. (Learn more about transmission history in the T1 EFILE help topic.)
You can print a copy of it for your clients using the EFILE Receipt. It also appears in the Client Letter (Cletter) and the Joint Client Letter (JLetter) if you print either letter after filing the return.
