"Bad Request" Error During Auto-fill My Return (AFR)

If you encounter a "Bad Request" error while using the Auto-fill My Return (AFR) service, we want to provide you with some additional information to help you resolve the error as quickly as possible.

The full error message appears as follows:

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

This error is a result of a restriction check from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It typically occurs after multiple consecutive AFR requests, causing a buildup of data in your browser that the CRA server eventually rejects. This is not a TaxCycle software malfunction.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Clear your browser cache: Open your web browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) and clear your browsing data and cache, ensuring the time range is set to "all time."
  2. Verify CRA access: Before opening TaxCycle, open your browser and attempt to log in to Represent a Client. Once you have successfully logged into the CRA portal, open TaxCycle and try Auto-fill My Return process again.

Further Assistance

We are currently in communication with the CRA to see if there is additional information we can share with you. We will provide updates as they become available.
