Switching to TaxCycle? A Crucial CRA EFILE Update for a Smooth Tax Season

Welcome to TaxCycle! Whether you’re a returning member or new to our community of tax preparers, we’re excited to have you with us for the upcoming tax season. To help you get settled and ensure a seamless start to your filing season, we want to share a critical update from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

What’s Changing at the CRA?

The CRA is implementing a new security measure for the upcoming tax season. Beginning in February 2026, all EFILE accounts will be directly associated with specific T1 and T3 certified software products.

In other words, to successfully EFILE a tax return, your EFILE account must be linked to the software you are using to transmit the return. If you attempt to file a T1 or T3 return using a software product that is not linked to your EFILE account, the transmission will be rejected.

A Heads-Up for New TaxCycle Users

This is especially important for anyone switching to TaxCycle this year.

During the EFILE renewal process in October 2025, the CRA will automatically associate your EFILE account with the software you used in the past, based on your historical usage.

If you’re new to TaxCycle, your EFILE account will likely be linked to your old software provider by default. You must take action to change this. Unfortunately, we cannot change this for you because it affects the security of your EFILE account.

Update Your Software Preference Now

To avoid filing rejections and unnecessary stress once the season begins, we encourage you to contact the CRA EFILE Helpdesk as soon as possible to inform them of your switch to TaxCycle software.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Renew Your EFILE Account: Complete your annual EFILE renewal with the CRA and acknowledge that you are responsible for contacting the CRA to report any changes to the T1 and T3 filing software linked to your EFILE account.
  2. Call the EFILE Helpdesk: Contact the CRA’s EFILE Helpdesk and request that they associate your EFILE account with TaxCycle.

Don’t delay! The EFILE Helpdesk becomes incredibly busy from January through April. A quick call now could save you hold time and prevent filing interruptions later. Getting this taken care of today ensures you can seamlessly file with TaxCycle when the EFILE system opens next season.
