How to print a proof of income statement from CRA Represent a Client


Sometimes clients ask you to provide a copy of their tax return as proof of income. Most preparers just print a copy of the most recent tax return for their client. There is another way, using Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Represent a Client.

The watermark is required

Since 2015, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires a watermark on the T1 return once a return has been successfully transmitted by EFILE. Ever since we added a watermark, preparers have asked us how to remove it when printing for proof of income.

The short answer is it has to stay. The watermark is a requirement of the CRA so it cannot be removed. However, it shouldn't interfere with providing a proof of income. In fact, it is additional confirmation that the return was filed...

Print a proof of income statement from Represent a Client

Did you know you can provide your clients with a proof of income statement from CRA Represent a Client? It's easy:

  1. Log into Represent a Client.
  2. Enter the client's social insurance number (SIN) to access their account.
  3. Click Proof of income statement (option 'C' print) in the menu on the left.
  4. Choose the year from the drop-down list.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Print.
