Sometimes clients ask you to provide a copy of their tax return as proof of income. Most preparers just print a copy of the most recent tax return for their client. There is another way, using the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Represent a Client.
Since 2015, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires a watermark on the T1 return once a return has been successfully transmitted by EFILE. Ever since we added a watermark, preparers have asked us how to remove it when printing for proof of income.
The short answer is it has to stay. The watermark is a requirement of the CRA so it cannot be removed. However, it shouldn't interfere with providing proof of income. It is an additional confirmation that the return was filed.
