It's Time to Retire Windows® 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

On January 10, 2023, Microsoft stopped providing security updates or support for PCs running Windows® 8.1. On October 10, 2023, Microsoft also ceased to provide support or updates for PCs running Windows Server 2012 R2.

TaxCycle and DoxCycle will no longer support Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 after May 12, 2024. We recommend you upgrade now to get ready.

Three Great Reasons to Upgrade

  1. Once support ends, you will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates. Without security updates, your client data may be at risk.
  2. Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 are both over ten years old. You're likely not using a ten-year-old PC, so why still use a ten-year-old operating system?
  3. TaxCycle is built to run on new technology. It will perform better on Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Upgrading Your Hardware

If you're also thinking of purchasing new hardware, take a look at our recommended system requirements to make sure you buy a PC that meets at least those needs so it will last into the future.
