RESOLVED: Error When Importing Corporate Linking File

An error occurs when you attempt to import a corporate linking CGI file that does not contain the details of the associated/related corporations.

This error occurs when you:

  1. Create a new T2 return but do not enter the names, business numbers, and tax year start and end dates for associated/related corporations on the CGI worksheet before creating the CGI file.
  2. When you attempt to import this corporate linking file into a related T2 return, the following dialog box appears. No matter which option you select on this dialog box, an error occurs. (Note that the error may have different wording, depending on the option you chose on the dialog box.)

Workaround

Make sure to include the following information for each associated/related corporations on the CGI worksheet before creating the corporation linking (CGI) file:

  • Corporation’s name
  • Tax year start
  • Tax year end
  • Business number

When you import the file, TaxCycle will have enough information to create the link without displaying the dialog box that causes the error.
