CCA Calculation Change Messages

When you open a file in a TaxCycle version with updated CCA calculations, TaxCycle displays a warning message. The choices available for addressing this message depend on the filing or workflow status of the return.

In Progress and Unlocked Files

For in-progress and unlocked files, TaxCycle automatically calculates CCA using the new RIIP rules. You cannot continue using the old CCA calculations and continue to work on the return.

Screen Capture: Calculations have changed

  1. To apply the new CCA calculations, click the Accept button in the red banner.
  2. You may Preview the changes to the return before accepting them. This will open the Review sidebar and list the changed fields.
    • In T1 returns, this list includes fields that will change on the T1 jacket (and not fields changing on income statements or CCA worksheets). If you see a change to net income on the T1 jacket, it is likely due to the updated CCA calculations.
    • In T2 returns, the list of changes shows fields that will change on T2 Schedule 8.
  3. Since TaxCycle automatically applies the new calculations upon opening the file, clicking Lock and Preview will lock the file with new CCA values in place.
  4. If you Dismiss the message and close the file without saving, the same message will reappear the next time you open the return. If you dismiss the message and attempt to save the file, it TaxCycle will prompt you to accept the calculation changes.

Completed, Filed or Locked Returns

For locked files, previously filed returns or returns marked as “Completed,” calculations remain unchanged until you unlock the file and apply them.

  1. To apply the new CCA calculations, click the Unlock button in the green banner.
  2. Next, click the Use updated calculation link in the review message on the affected Asset Manager worksheet, T777WS, or Motor Vehicle worksheet. After the green banner disappears, a review message will remain on those worksheets to allow you to revert to the original CCA amounts.
  3. The green banner also gives you the option to Preview changes before unlocking the file. However, clicking this button while the return is locked will show changes unrelated to CCA calculations in the Review sidebar, as you must apply the CCA changes using the link in the review message after unlocking the return.
  4. If you Dismiss or ignore this message, it will reappear the next time you open the file.
