We’re making multi-factor authentication (MFA) a requirement for TaxCycle Accounts. MFA adds a second step when you sign in, so a lost or stolen password isn’t enough to get into your account. It helps keep your purchases and your clients’ confidential information safe from unauthorized access.
TaxCycle Go: MFA will be required to use TaxCycle Go. If you haven’t set it up when you first sign in, TaxCycle Go will send you to your TaxCycle Account to add an MFA method before you can continue.
TaxFolder: MFA will be required for preparers to use TaxFolder after the 2027 tax season. Until then, preparers who haven’t set up MFA will see a reminder. You can dismiss it for 48 hours, after which it returns. Clients won’t see this reminder when they use TaxFolder.
TaxCycle Desktop: MFA will be required in TaxCycle Desktop for everyone who uses TaxCycle Go. If you don’t use TaxCycle Go, we still recommend adding MFA to protect your account, and you’ll see reminders until you do. We plan to require MFA for all tax preparers in the future.
We recommend setting up MFA now so these changes won’t interrupt your work. It takes about five minutes, and an authenticator app is the preferred method.
Not sure which authenticator app to use? These popular options work on your mobile device and in your browser:
Microsoft Authenticator for iOS or Android.
2FAS Auth: an open-source option for iOS or Android.
When you compare apps, consider whether they offer:
Cross-device syncing so your accounts are available on all your devices.
Desktop or browser support so you can authenticate right in your browser for faster sign-in.
Cloud backup so you can recover your accounts if you lose your mobile device.
Export so you can move your accounts to another app later if you decide to switch.
Sign in to your TaxCycle Account and add an MFA method now. See our multi-factor authentication (MFA) help topics for instructions.
