TaxCycle 13.1.52444.0—SERs in TaxCycle Forms, Canada Carbon Rebate

This version of TaxCycle adds SERs support to TaxCycle Forms, allowing you to electronically transmit certain special elections and returns, including the UHT-2900, to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for corporations and partnerships. It also updates the Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) worksheet and forms to reflect the CRA’s latest changes.

To install this version immediately, download the full installer from our website or request a free trial. Once we enable the automatic update for this version, TaxCycle will prompt you to install it according to the priority set in your TaxCycle Options. Release Highlights

T1 Updates

EFILE is not available to transmit the following returns as certification with the CRA is still pending:

  • Subject to tax in multiple provinces (multiple jurisdictions)
  • Non-residents of Canada filing a return under Section 116
  • Deemed residents of Canada filing a return under section 250
  • Emigrants (those who have departed Canada in the tax year)

The following forms still show the Preview watermark:

  • T2203, Provincial and Territorial Taxes for Multiple Jurisdictions and provincial 428MJ forms.
  • TP-22, Income Tax Payable by an Individual Who Carries on a Business in Canada, Outside Québec
  • TP-25, Income Tax Payable by an Individual Resident in Canada, Outside Québec, Who Carries on a Business in Québec

Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR)

We have updated the name of the Canada Carbon Rebate (formerly known as the Climate action incentive payment (CAIP)) on the worksheet and any summaries and letters to reflect the CRA’s recent rebranding of the program.

Other T1 Updates

  • Added messages to address EFILE errors related to first-time filers (149-R and 110-B) to clarify the new requirements.
  • Added messages to address the NetFile Québec error that requires an email address to be entered when the client requests to receive notifications from Revenu Québec.
  • Added the First Home Savings Account (FHSA) unused participation room and unused contributions to the Carryforward Summary.
  • Removed the Saskatchewan Pension Plan (SPP) limit used in calculations on the RRSP worksheet.

New! Special Elections and Returns (SERs) in TaxCycle Forms

This release adds the Special Elections and Returns (SERs) and the Submit e-Documents (SERsSupport) service to TaxCycle Forms, allowing you to transmit certain special elections and returns along with any supporting documentation to the CRA for corporations and partnerships only.

The following forms are available to transmit using the SERs transmission service in TaxCycle Forms:

  • T2054, Election for a Capital Dividend Under Subsection 83(2)
  • T2057, Election on Disposition of Property by a Taxpayer to a Taxable Canadian Corporation
  • T2058, Election on Disposition of Property by a Partnership to a Taxable Canadian Corporation
  • T2059, Election on Disposition of Property by a Taxpayer to a Canadian Partnership
  • UHT-2900, Underused Housing Tax Return and Election Form
    • The Submit e-Documents service is not available for the UHT-2900.

SERs in TaxCycle Forms is only available for T2 and T5013 clients at this time. Individual clients will still need to file their returns by paper. To get started, read the SERs in TaxCycle Forms help topic.

The CRA released a new version of the UHT-2900 on February 29th which incorporates proposed changes to the Underused Housing Tax Act announced on November 16, 2023. We will update the form in an upcoming release.

Updated Forms

  • Updated NR73 Determination of residency status (Leaving Canada) to the latest version available from the CRA.

Customer Requests

  • T1 2023—Removed a line break in the client letter (CLetter and DLetter) that was causing the “The enclosed copy is for your records” sentence to appear on a separate line.
  • T1—Updated the optional review message on the T1DD worksheet to only trigger if the client is not signed up for direct deposit as shown on the AFR client data enquiry (CDE).
  • T2 2023 and 2024—Added a sentence about the CO-17 refund being applied to next year’s instalments to the client letters.
  • T3—Added an error message that appears in the print dialog box when sending an electronic signature request and there are multiple trustees. You can request an e-signature for the first trustee, but if you want all trustees to sign, you can print to PDF and create the e-signature request manually.
  • T5013—Fixed review messages that were triggering incorrectly on S141 Part 3 and downgraded the Part 5 review message to allow for sign-off.
  • Slips modules—Added support for {Client Reference} in the slip file name variables in the print dialog box. This variable is linked to the Client ID on the Engagement worksheet.

Resolved Issues

  • Customer Reported T1—Fixed a broken signature anchor on the T2091.
  • Customer Reported T1—Updated the client letter to hide the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) paragraph if there is supplement income entered on line 14600.
  • T2—Resolved an issue where TaxCycle did not correctly calculate line 414 on the T2 Schedule 1 (Reserve from financial statements—balance at the beginning of the year) as the total of columns A and B in the T2 Schedule 13 table.
  • T3—Resolved an issue where TaxCycle did not display the response message for rejected transmissions.
  • T5013—Fixed an issue where the T1134 FRRMS Submit e-Documents box did not appear in the Transmit sidebar.
  • Customer Reported T5013—Resolved an issue where carrying forward a T5013 file that included a memo attached to a partner row on the S50 created a blank partner row that could not be deleted.
  • Customer Reported Improved the error message that appears if the email template is missing a subject line when requesting signatures using DocuSign®.
  • T2202—Added a missing label template to support printing labels.
