Smart Copy/Paste

Updated: 2017-04-26

Use Smart Copy/Paste to share information on a form between two files. For example, to copy the T2 Corporate Group Information (CGI) worksheet from one corporation's file to the files of the associated/related corporations. Or, copy the T2125 business statement from one person's T1 return to a different file for the business partner.

This is a one-time copy/paste and does not create a link between the two files. For a live link between two associated/related corporations, see the Corporate Linking help topic.

Smart Copy/Paste is currently available for the following forms:

  • In TaxCycle T2: CGI worksheet
  • In TaxCycle T1: T776, T2042, T2121, T2125, from the T2042 to T1163 and T1164 AgriStability forms

Smart Copy/Paste the CGI worksheet in TaxCycle T2

  1. Prepare the Corporate Group Information (CGI) worksheet in a first file.
  2. With the form open, go to the Home tab, click Smart Copy, and then click Copy Corporate Group Information (CGI), or press Ctrl+Shift+C.
Smart Copy/Paste on the Home menu
  3. You can also right-click on the form and select Smart Copy.
  4. Go to the CGI worksheet in the T2 file where you want to paste the information.
  5. Go to the Home tab and click Paste, right-click on the form and select Paste, or press Ctrl+V.

This not only pastes the information to the form, but it re-organizes it to suit the other corporation, making the current corporation first in the list and correctly allocating the small business limit.

If you copy and paste a T2125 business statement, the partnership share is adjusted so that the net income is correctly allocated.

  3. You can also right-click on the form and select Smart Copy.
  4. Go to the T2125 form in the other file.
  5. Go to the Home tab and click Paste, right-click on the form and select Paste, or press Ctrl+V. This pastes the information to the second T2125 business statement and adjusts the partnership share to correctly allocate the net income.
