To carry forward a batch of files from the Client Manager:
Set up the Client Manager so that it contains an index of your prior-year tax returns.
In the sidebar on the Start screen or in the Client Manager, click Quick Searches.
Scroll down to the Custom filters section.
Narrow the results by checking the Return type and Year filters.
In the list of clients, check the boxes to select files for batch:
In the List returns view, check the boxes in the column at the far left. To check all boxes in this column, check the box in the heading of the column.
In the Client card view, check the box next to the file name in the preview.
When you have selected all the files you need, click the yellow batch box to go the batch screen.
Choose Carry forward from the Batch operation drop-down menu.
Check the standard batch options you need, including:
Export the results of the operation to Microsoft Excel®.
Hide files that are ineligible for the selected operation.
Clear the batch of files upon completion.
On the right, select the carryforward options:
The Return purpose for new files.
The folder where to save the new files.
Whether to overwrite existing files in that folder.
When you're ready, click the Start button to begin processing. The time it takes to carry forward all the files depends on how many files are in the batch and how fast your computer is. When the batch carryforward completes, the new files are also added to the Client Manager.
