Auto-complete from a pre-set list

In fields with a pre-set list to choose from—such as Province on the Info worksheet—TaxCycle auto-completes from the built-in list as you type.

  1. As soon as you start typing the first letter, TaxCycle suggests a completion for the word.
  2. When you see what you want, press Enter to save that entry.
  3. Otherwise, you will need to click the drop-down arrow and choose from the list of available items.

This same functionality in the industry code fields on business or farming statements means you can type a keyword to choose the industry code, rather than browse through a list of items.

Auto-complete from keystroke history (predictive typing)

  1. In text-entry fields—such as the issuer field on slips—TaxCycle builds a history of what you type and suggests those entries in other similar fields and returns.
  2. If you find a spelling mistake in this list, open the drop-down list
  3. Click the Delete button to the right of the entry to remove it from the list.
  4. These auto-complete lists are saved year-over-year and are shared with relevant fields. As these lists grow, your data entry is faster and more consistent.

Auto-complete options

  1. From the Start screen, click Options in the blue bar on the left side. If you have a file open, go to the File menu, then click Options
  2. On the left, expand Return Preparation and click Edit
  3. On the right side, scroll to the section called Auto-complete.
  4. Choose from one of three options on how you want auto-complete to work and keystroke history to be saved.
  5. Check Sort auto-complete entries to show the list of entries in alphabetical order. Clear the check mark to show the list of entries by order entered (default).
  6. Click the link to View auto-complete history to go to the folder where keystrokes are stored. There's a single text file for each field, all with the extension of .typing, (that you can copy and paste to share with others, if you wish).
  7. If you want to delete all the keystroke history, click the link to clear auto-complete history.
