Options password

Updated: 2016-11-10

If you have Administrator rights on your Windows® user account, you can set a password to prevent other users from changing options or changing Options Profiles. This can be useful if you are setting up all the computers in the office to have the same options.

Set an options password

  1. To open Options from the Start screen, click Options in the blue bar on the left side. If you have a file open, go to File menu, then click Options.
  2. At the bottom of the Options dialog box, click the link to Require a password to show options.
  3. Enter and confirm a password. Make sure you remember this password, as we cannot retrieve it for you. There is a mechanism to allow the person who purchased the license code to reset the password using their www.taxcycle.com My Account email address and password (see below).
  4. Click OK.
  5. Confirm this change as a Windows® Administrator of the computer. This will either require an Administrator to log in, or, if an Administrator is already logged in, to confirm the change.
  6. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
  7. The next time you click File and then Options, you will need to enter the password to even see the dialog box.

  2. Enter the password.
  3. At the bottom of the Options dialog box, click the link to Remove Options password.
  4. Confirm this change as an Windows® Administrator of the computer. This will either require an Administrator log in, or, if an Administrator is already logged in, to confirm the change.
  5. Click OK.

Did you forget the options password?

We highly recommend you record the options password somewhere safe, because we cannot retrieve your password if you lose it.

However, you can bypass the Options password using the email address and password of the person who purchased your software license from www.taxcycle.com.

  1. To open Options from the Start screen, click Options in the blue bar on the left side. If you have a file open, go to File menu, then click Options.
  2. Click the My Account login link on the password screen:

  3. Enter the email address and password of the www.taxcycle.com user account of the person who purchased the software.
  4. TaxCycle checks the account online for a valid, purchased license code for TaxCycle. If it does, you will bypass the options password and be able to open the Options dialog box.
  5. Once the Options dialog box opens, click the Remove Options password link at the bottom of the window and confirm you are an Administrator.
  6. Now you can set a new options password using the steps above.
