Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007

Updated: 2017-10-19

Occasionally email messages generated from TaxCycle or DoxCycle open in Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007 as an EML file attached to the email message instead of creating a new message with the content.

This is a known issue with Outlook 2007 and 2003 opening EML files, as explained in the following Microsoft knowledgebase articles:

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

To address this issue in Outlook 2007, Microsoft released a patch.

To install this patch:

  1. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956693.
  2. Click the link to Activate the Outlook 2007 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package.
  3. Download the hotfix package and run it.
  4. Follow the hotfix package setup instructions to apply the hotfix.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

To address this issue in Outlook 2003, Microsoft released a patch.

To install this patch:

  1. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/965495.
  2. Click the Hotfix Download Available button near the top of the page.
  3. You will be asked you to provide your email address so Microsoft can email you a link to the hotfix update file.
  4. Once you receive the link, download the hotfix update file and extract the content to a location on your system. Remember this location as you will need to manually start the update installation package (office2003-KB965495-GLB.exe).
  5. Run the update installation package and extract the hotfix update file. Again, remember this location as you will need to manually start the hotfix installation (OUTLOOK.msp).
  6. Run the hotfix installation update.
  7. When prompted, select Add or Remove Features and then click Next
  8. Click the Update button to apply the hotfix to Outlook 2003.
